Sienkevych will look for a compromise so that there are votes at the session: «Some MPs are trying to show their value»

The mayor of Mykolaiv, Oleksandr Sienkevych, has said that he will seek a compromise for further dialogue with the deputy corps in order to «unblock» the work of the sessions of the Mykolaiv City Council.

He said this in a comment to NikVesti.

It should be noted that this is the second time that the sessions of Mykolaiv City Council have been held on the brink. No more than 30 deputies are connected to online meetings, and they are not authorised to participate in the sessions. Despite the fact that some of the deputies «want to show their value», the mayor wants to find a compromise for the further work of the corps.

«Such situations happen in the work of any council. In Mykolaiv, recent sessions have been difficult, and some issues, including land, remain unadopted. Today, we have a small number of deputies who participate in the meetings of the session. And some deputies are trying to show their value at the session by blocking decision-making. This creates difficulties, but we will continue to work with the deputies, seek compromises and explain the importance of decisions for the city,» said Oleksandr Sienkevych.

The mayor also reminded that over the past 10 years, Mykolaiv has repeatedly gone through serious crises in the city council.

«In my memory, over the past 10 years, we have had bigger crises in the city council and nothing happened, we passed them and continued to work. I believe that in difficult moments for the city, we must work together for the citizens. After all, it was the citizens who elected us. And it is at the sessions that we represent the people of Mykolaiv and their interests,» he stressed.

On 3 September, the second plenary session of the Mykolaiv City Council was supposed to take place, where the deputies were asked to approve 57 land issues and budget redistribution. However, the meeting failed to take place due to the lack of deputies following a dispute between Mayor Oleksandr Sienkevych and deputy Tetiana Dombrovska over the vote to reform the structure of the city hall.

The session continued on 4 September. During the session, the head of Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration Vitalii Kim responded to the doubts of the city council members about the feasibility of funding the regional municipal guard from the city budget. He reminded them that the guard is involved in air defence and «90% of its work is aimed at protecting Mykolaiv». At the session, the deputies also approved amendments to the budget for 2025. The city's revenues have increased by over 623 million hryvnias due to additional taxes and subventions from the state.

On 11 September, the deputies of Mykolaiv City Council gathered for the fourth plenary meeting of the session to consider land issues. However, due to insufficient votes, the meeting had to be postponed again. Vitalii Kim, a deputy and chairman of the Mykolaiv Regional State Administration, called the session «a sham».
