President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Donald Trump should express «a clear position» on the package of sanctions against Russia and security guarantees for Ukraine. In his opinion, this is necessary to end the war.

In an interview with Sky News, Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed hope that British Prime Minister Keir Starmer would discuss the issue of guarantees for Ukraine with him during Donald Trump's state visit to London.

The Ukrainian president stressed that peace agreements should be documented with the support of the United States and European partners. For this, he said, a clear position of the American leader is needed.

«Before we end the war, I really want all the agreements to be concluded. I want... to have a document that is supported by the US and all European partners. This is very important. For this to happen, we need a clear position from President Trump,» he said.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy also called on Donald Trump to take «decisive personal steps» to stop Vladimir Putin. He reminded that the EU had already adopted 18 sanctions packages, while the United States was expected to make a powerful sanctions decision.

The Head of State emphasised that the meeting between Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump in Alaska in August had been beneficial for the Russian president. It allowed him to break out of international isolation and created the preconditions for his participation in further international events.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy believes that Putin is trying to mislead Donald Trump and avoid sanctions. He warned that the longer the introduction of restrictions is delayed, the more time Russia will have to prepare.

It is worth noting that US Secretary of State Marco Rubio rejected speculation that the meeting in Alaska had pushed Russian President Vladimir Putin to launch new attacks against Ukraine and strikes on Polish territory.

He also said that the president would not announce any specific timeframe for the possible introduction of restrictions. At the same time, Donald Trump expects that European partners will also take steps in this direction and refuse to purchase Russian products, including oil.

Earlier, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said that US President Donald Trump would «carefully» examine the issue of new sanctions against Russia in the coming days.

Prior to that, the White House said that Donald Trump does not want to impose new sanctions against Russia, but is ready to do so if necessary.

At the same time, U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal stressed the need for an early vote on the bill on new sanctions against Russia. In his opinion, Russian President Vladimir Putin «does not deserve additional time».

The day before, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy reminded that two weeks had passed since Donald Trump gave Russia 14 days to confirm its readiness for talks at the level of leaders.

According to the poll, almost 60% of Americans are not confident in Donald Trump's ability to make informed decisions regarding the war between Russia and Ukraine.
