He said this in an interview with the public broadcaster «Suspilne».

Richard Blumenthal believes that the current sanctions are not enough and need to be strengthened.

«I agree that Vladimir Putin does not deserve more time and we need to speed up the voting on the sanctions bill. Everything the president is doing is in the right direction, but I strongly advocate for sanctions to be 500%, not 100%,» the senator said.

According to him, the Senate already has at least 85 votes in support of the initiative, and this number may increase to 90.

Blumenthal stressed that the adoption of the bill is an important step to show the unity between the US President and the Congress in supporting Ukraine. He also said that the new sanctions will help stop the war, and Vladimir Putin should realise this.

As a reminder, US President Donald Trump gave Russian leader Vladimir Putin 10 days to conclude a peace agreement with Ukraine.

It should be noted that Donald Trump is dissatisfied with the progress of peace talks to end the war in Ukraine.

At the same time, the Kremlin said that it had read US President Donald Trump's statement on reducing the timeframe for resolving the war in Ukraine from 50 to 10-12 days. The Russian side also stressed that it intends to continue to protect its interests in the negotiation process.
