Czech President Petr Pavel has said that Russia's war against Ukraine could last for years if the situation does not change.
In an interview with the BBC, he noted that Russia has managed to seize some Ukrainian territories, but at the cost of heavy losses.
«So far, Ukrainian defence has been effective — it has inflicted serious damage on Russian troops and held important positions. But if the war continues at this pace, it could drag on for years. This is unacceptable for everyone», said Piotr Pawel.
He also stressed that, in addition to supporting Ukraine, it is important to increase pressure on Russia and show that it is impossible to achieve victory on the battlefield.
Earlier, Czech President Petr Pavel said that after the parliamentary elections in October, the country could not guarantee continued military support for Ukraine. He did not rule out a possible change in government policy towards Kyiv.
As a reminder, Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said that next year Ukraine would receive an additional 400,000 rounds of ammunition as part of the Czech initiative.
