The chairman of the Mykolaiv Regional Council, Anton Tabunschyk, is proposed to be awarded the Regional Council's insignia «For the Defence of Mykolaiv region».

The relevant decision was made at a meeting of the Standing Committee on Education of the Mykolaiv Regional Council, according to NikVesti.

The initiator was the chairman of the commission, Yevhen Horburov (non-factional, elected from the currently banned party «Opposition Platform for Life»). He noted that he was personally submitting a proposal to award Anton Tabunschyk for his contribution to the defence of the region since the beginning of Russia's full-scale aggression. According to him, Anton Tabunschyk has been helping the military, rescuing people and property and clearing rubble after shelling.

«Since the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Anton Tabunschyk has been defending Mykolaiv and Mykolaiv region, helping the Armed Forces and the Territorial Defence Forces, travelling to the territory of Kherson region, which at that time was under constant enemy fire. Immediately after the enemy attacked the regional administration building on Admiralska Street, he was one of the first among the leaders to personally come to the rescue, providing transport, saving people, documents, valuable equipment, and dismantling the rubble of the destroyed building. He took an active part in the development of the defence infrastructure in the region, setting up resistance points on the spot,» said Yevhen Horburov.

He also added that the chairman of the regional council provided the soldiers on the front line with everything they needed, organised humanitarian support for museums and cultural institutions, where he provided food and household materials.

«He personally provides soldiers on the front line with necessary materials, food and military equipment. He also organised humanitarian aid for regional cultural institutions. I provided food to museums twice, for example, the regional museum of local lore, the museum of shipbuilding and the fleet, as well as all these cultural institutions where we had detergents and hygiene products. Because when the ban on visiting cultural institutions was lifted, it was necessary to do this, and these institutions had no funds at the time. Realising that with the outbreak of a full-scale war and the introduction of martial law in Ukraine, local government faced new challenges, I set myself the main task of preserving the territorial communities of the region, ensuring their life and development under martial law and laying the foundation for a peaceful life after Ukraine's victory,» added Yevhen Horburov.

According to him, Anton Tabunschyk is a very modest person. That is why the deputy believes that it is the duty of the entire regional council to award him.

«I am making a proposal that today we should separately agree at our standing committee to award Anton Tabunschyk with the Regional Council's award «For the Defence of Mykolaiv Region» for his contribution. We all know that our chairman, without any sycophancy, is a very modest person. If we do not do this today, then no one will do it for him at all. Because he is primarily concerned about these soldiers, about the families of the fallen soldiers. And I believe that it is our duty as deputies to recognise this,» added Yevhen Horburov.

The award of the Mykolaiv Regional Council «For the Defence of Mykolaiv Region» was established on 19 December 2024. It was created to honour individuals who have shown heroism, patriotism and made a significant contribution to the defence of Mykolaiv region during Russia's large-scale aggression against Ukraine. The award recognises military personnel, volunteers, civil servants and others who have defended the region and maintained its security.

As a reminder, Anton Tabunschyk, Chairman of the Mykolaiv Regional Council, received 1,552,731 hryvnias in salary in 2024, which is approximately 130,000 hryvnias per month.
