Kyiv Mayor Vitalii Klychko has said that President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is trying to paralyse the work of the Kyiv City Council and hinted that he is allegedly trying to establish authoritarianism in Ukraine.
He said this in a comment to the Times.
The publication described the conflict that has developed between Vitalii Klychko and Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The mayor of the Ukrainian capital said that the central government was trying to discredit him and hinted at authoritarianism in Ukraine.
«I once said that our country smells like authoritarianism. Now it stinks of it», said Vitalii Klychko.
In addition, the mayor of Kyiv accused the president of using regional military administrations across the country to «take power away from elected mayors».
«Many mayors are intimidated, but my celebrity status is a protection. It is possible to fire the mayor of Chernihiv, but it is very difficult to fire the mayor of the capital, who is known all over the world. That's why everything is being done to discredit and destroy my reputation», he stressed.
We would like to remind you that even before the full-scale invasion, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed his sincere belief that he had no political rivals. He called war, infrastructure and poor people his «competitors».
He said this in an interview with Nataliia Moseichuk on the «1+1 TV channel», answering questions about his relationship with Kyiv Mayor Vitalii Klychko and the state of roads and bridges in the capital.
