German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has said that his country, as well as the United States, France and the United Kingdom, no longer restrict the use of their weapons by Ukrainian forces in strikes on Russian territory.

This was reported by Clash Report, CGTN and Breakingthenews with reference to the WDR broadcast.

According to the chancellor, Ukraine now has the right to use long-range weapons from allies to strike military targets in the Russian Federation.

He stressed that Germany no longer imposes restrictions on the use of long-range weapons supplied.

«There are no longer any restrictions on the supply of long-range weapons to Ukraine — neither by the British, nor by the French, nor by the Americans, nor by us. This means that Ukraine can now defend itself, including by striking at military targets in Russia», Friedrich Merz said.

Meanwhile, Spiegel, citing its own sources, reports that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy may visit Berlin on Wednesday, 28 May. He is expected to discuss with Merz the next steps in the technical negotiations between Kyiv and Moscow.

In addition, the Chancellor plans to inform Zelenskyy about plans to introduce a new sanctions package against Russia, which aims to increase pressure on the Kremlin to engage in the negotiation process.

To recap, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said after the summit in Albania, where EU leaders and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met, that Europe has no plans to send troops to Ukraine. According to him, the main priority is to achieve a ceasefire on the part of Russia.
