President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said that the Ukrainian side is ready for a full and unconditional ceasefire, but will act in a mirror image if Russia continues to shell. The head of state outlined this position in his address on 19 April.
According to the President, the United States proposed a thirty-day silence format on 11 March, and Ukraine responded positively, but Russia has been ignoring this initiative for 39 days.
«If Russia is now suddenly ready to really join the format of complete and unconditional silence, Ukraine will act in a mirror image — silence in response to silence, strikes in defence against strikes», Volodymyr Zelenskyy stressed.
He also noted that in the event of a real ceasefire, Ukraine proposes to extend the ceasefire after Easter.
«This will show Russia's true intentions, because 30 hours is enough for headlines, but not for real confidence-building measures. Thirty days can give peace a chance», the Head of State noted.
Despite the ceasefire announcement, according to the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi, Russian assaults and shelling continue in certain areas of the frontline. Therefore, Zelenskyy stressed, there is no trust in Moscow's words, and Ukraine is always ready for any development.
It should be noted that Russian President Vladimir Putin has announced the so-called «Easter truce». The Russians declared their readiness to cease fire from the evening of 19 April to midnight on 21 April, but only if Ukraine complies with the ceasefire.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy commented on another Russian attack with attack drones that took place after 17:00 on Saturday, 19 April. According to him, this demonstrates the true attitude of Russian President Vladimir Putin to Easter and human life.
Subsequently, the head of the Kherson Regional Military Administration, Oleksandr Prokudin, noted that Russian drone attacks continued in the region after 18:00, when the Russians allegedly announced an «Easter truce». He noted that there is currently no «lull».
