Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov has said that the process of restoring bilateral relations between Russia and the United States will be «long and difficult», and that the countries are currently only at the initial stage of this journey.

According to Dmitry Peskov, Moscow and Washington are currently «at the initial stage of restoring bilateral relations».

«The path is going to be quite long and difficult, but at least two presidents have expressed political will in this direction»," the Kremlin spokesman said, referring to Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin.

He also noted that the US and Russian leaders have had only one phone conversation so far, but called it «constructive enough» for the parties to continue dialogue and work on solving problems.

Earlier, US President Donald Trump said that he trusts Russian President Vladimir Putin and believes that the US «is doing very well with Russia».

He also said that he was working to resolve the war between Russia and Ukraine, emphasising that this was «all he was thinking about at the moment».
