Zelenskyy's adviser: No talks with Russians in Munich are planned

Радник президента України Дмитро Литвин та президента України Володимир ЗеленськийAdvisor to the President of Ukraine Dmytro Lytvyn and President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy

Advisor to the President of Ukraine Dmytro Lytvyn has said that there are no plans to hold talks with Russian representatives at the Munich Security Conference.

His statement was quoted by «Interfax-Ukraine».

«The Ukrainian position is unchanged... There will be no talks with the Russians in Munich,» he told reporters.

According to him, Ukraine should first discuss the issue with the United States with the participation of European partners.

«And only an agreed common position should be on the table for a conversation with the Russians. You don't meet with Russians at an empty table. At the moment, there is nothing on the table,» stressed Dmytro Lytvyn.

Earlier, US President Donald Trump said that a meeting would be held at the Munich Security Conference with representatives of Ukraine, Russia and the United States.

It should also be noted that on 12 February, US President Donald Trump had a telephone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin. In particular, they discussed Ukraine and the Middle East, and agreed that the war should be stopped. Later, Donald Trump spoke on the phone with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

Peace talks

Earlier, Donald Trump said that the United States was engaged in constructive negotiations to end a full-scale war with Ukraine and the Russian Federation. In particular, he expressed hope that agreements would be reached as soon as possible.

He also claimed that Washington had already made some progress in negotiations to end the war between Russia and Ukraine.

In addition, Donald Trump indicated that his administration had already held discussions with Moscow, but did not specify who participated in such a dialogue.

Earlier, Volodymyr Zelenskyy stressed that negotiations between the United States and Russia to end the war without Kyiv's participation pose a threat to everyone.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy also noted that he was ready to sit down with Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin for the sake of peace, despite his hostile attitude.

However, Russian President Vladimir Putin has said he is ready to «allocate people» to negotiate with Ukraine to end the war. At the same time, he called any such talks «illegitimate».
