US Secretary of State on the consequences of the war: Ukraine was thrown back 100 years, its energy system destroyed

In an interview, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that the war with Russia has set Ukraine back 100 years, destroying its energy system and forcing many Ukrainians to leave the country.

In an interview with American journalist Megyn Kelly, he said that the continuation of the conflict is destroying Ukraine.

«Ukraine has been thrown back 100 years, its energy system has been destroyed. Someone will have to pay for the restoration of all this. And how many Ukrainians have left Ukraine and are now living in other countries? They may never come back. And this is the future, and it is under threat», he stressed.

He is also convinced that the previous US administration convinced people to believe that Ukraine can «not just defeat Russia, but destroy it», return everything to the state of 2012 or 2014. However, in his opinion, the continuation of the war only destroys Ukraine and takes away its territories.

Marco Rubio called on President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to accept the real state of affairs to resolve the conflict. He also suggested that each side would have to sacrifice something to end the war during the negotiations.

As a reminder, Russian President Vladimir Putin said he was ready to «allocate people» to negotiate with Ukraine to end the war. At the same time, he called any such negotiations «illegitimate».

It should be noted that earlier, Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that he had stopped separatism in the country by decreeing a ban on direct talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

As a reminder, the White House has stated that the war waged by Russia against Ukraine must end in a way that meets the aspirations of the Ukrainian people.
