Ukraine and the UK signed a historic agreement on 100-year partnership: Ministry of Energy

On Thursday, 16 January, Ukraine and the United Kingdom signed a historic agreement on a 100-year partnership to deepen security ties and strengthen partnership for future generations.

This is stated on the website of the Office of the President.

The agreement was signed by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Keir Starmer. A year ago, in January 2024, the countries also signed a security agreement.

The main provisions of the agreement include

• deepening defence cooperation;
• strengthening security and reaching consensus on Ukraine's membership in NATO;
• building a partnership in maritime security;
• strengthening economic and trade cooperation;
• strengthening cooperation in energy, climate and the transition to clean energy;
• strengthening cooperation in the field of justice and prosecution;
• countering foreign information manipulation and interference;
• strengthening positions as leaders in science, technology and innovation;
• cooperation in socio-cultural areas such as human rights, gender equality, social integration, social protection, etc;
• cooperation on migration issues.

The British government added that today it will announce the allocation of 40 million pounds (approximately $48.7 million) for a new programme of economic recovery for small and medium-sized businesses in Ukraine.

The programme will create opportunities for British companies by supporting key growth sectors in Ukraine. Funding will be directed to businesses that support the «green» economy, women, veterans and marginalised groups.

Earlier it was reported that the UK is providing emergency support to Ukraine in the amount of £35 million. The funds will be used to restore the country's energy grid and provide humanitarian aid to the population.

As a reminder, the UK and Ukraine signed an intergovernmental agreement on official loan support for the development of Ukrainian defence capabilities.
