Officials of Mykolaiv City Council were banned from using Telegram at work

Employees of the Mykolaiv City Council were prohibited from using Telegram on computers and personal devices used for official purposes.

The relevant order of the Mykolaiv city mayor is published on the website of the city council.

This decision was made on the basis of the recommendations of the National Cyber Security Coordination Center under the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine.

It is forbidden to install the Telegram messenger on official devices (computers, laptops, tablets, phones) used in the work of executive bodies, enterprises, institutions and organizations of the Mykolaiv City Council.

The Department of Standardization and managers of utility companies will implement settings that will limit the possibility of installing and using Telegram on official devices.

The restriction will not apply to people who exclusively cover the activities of government bodies, enterprises, institutions and organizations and their officials in Telegram.

As you know, on September 20, the National Cyber Security Coordination Center decided to limit the use of the Telegram messenger in state institutions, military formations, and critical infrastructure facilities. From now on, employees of these fields are prohibited from installing and using Telegram on work devices.

We will remind that the head of the Main Directorate of Intelligence Kyrylo Budanov called the Telegram messenger a threat to the national security of Ukraine.

Previously, Pavlo Durov stated that Telegram aims to maintain neutrality and not become a «player in geopolitics».
