On Friday, October 4, autonomous trolleybuses began to run in the Korabelnyi district of Mykolaiv. Six units are currently operating on the route and their number will be increased if necessary.

This was reported by the correspondent NikVesti.

Mayor Oleksandr Sienkevych personally checked how the new route functions. According to him, the route allows you to get from Aivazovskyi Street and Korabeliv Avenue to the railway station, from where you can transfer to other trolleybuses.

«This trolleybus route connects a remote area with other parts of the city. I drove by the train station this morning, let's say, the number of people is small. The trolleybuses are currently running in test mode, and we will monitor how they work in the winter. After that, we will make decisions on additional transport and route optimization,» the mayor added.

The mayor also noted that Mykolaiv received financial support from the Danish government, thanks to which 31 new trolleybuses were purchased, six of which are already in service in the Ship district. Negotiations are currently underway for the purchase of nine more autonomous trolleybuses, which will increase the total number of units to 40.

«Currently, there are six trolleybuses operating on the route, and we plan to increase their number in the future. Thanks to the help of the Danish government, we received an additional 5 million euros, which they gave to the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development in the form of a non-refundable grant. To date, we have purchased 31 trolleybuses. We are negotiating the purchase of an additional 9 autonomous trolleybuses. In this way, there will be 40 of them in the city of Mykolaiv,» said Oleksandr Sienkevych.

Passengers can pay the driver for 8 hryvnias or use the QR code to pay for 7 hryvnias. Such a ticket is valid for one hour, which allows passengers to transfer to another trolleybus without additional costs. Information boards are installed in each trolleybus, where all the rules of use and conditions of fare payment are indicated.

«Each trolleybus is equipped with a passenger flow sensor, we will study how residents of Korabelnyi district move, and if necessary, this amount of transport will be increased. At the moment, our priority is work transportation, morning and evening, so that people can get to work on time and comfortably and return home from work in the evening,» Yurii Smetana said.

In addition to the launch of trolleybuses in Korabelnyi district, the city authorities are also planning the construction of a new trolleybus line from the bus station to the Kulbakinskyi Bridge.
