In Mykolaiv, they are seeking ₴20 million to renovate the square on Sadova Street and create a memorial area there

In Mykolaiv, there are plans to renovate the «Defenders of Law and Order» Square at the junction of Sadova Street and Tsentralnyi Avenue. The aim is to restore the neglected part of the square and erect a memorial in honour of the defenders of law and order.

The relevant project was submitted to the DREAM digital system in August 2026, according to NikVesti.

This concerns the section of the square along Sadova Street, from Tsentralnyi Avenue to Sevastopolskaya Street. It is currently described in DREAM as neglected, and the memorial located there as ruined.

The cost of the square’s reconstruction is provisionally estimated at 20.2 million hryvnias. Of this, around 1.1 million is earmarked for project preparation, with a further 19.1 million for its implementation.

During the reconstruction, the aim is to create a new memorial area, landscape the square and organise pedestrian routes.

There are also plans to preserve the existing trees in the square and plant a wider variety of plants. The aim is to make the space accessible to people with disabilities and other groups with reduced mobility.

The design of the future park and memorial was determined following an open, nationwide architectural competition. It is the winning design that is proposed for the redevelopment.

It is worth noting that the appearance of the project in the DREAM system does not mean that its implementation has already begun. It means that the project has passed the preparatory stage and may be eligible for funding in the future.

As a reminder, participants in the nationwide architectural competition for the best design proposal for the redevelopment of the «Defenders of Law and Order» square in Mykolaiv will receive cash prizes.

Back in 2019, the City Council’s Department of Housing and Communal Services spent over 900,000 hryvnias on major repairs to the «Defenders of Law and Order» square.
