The municipal utility company «Mykolaivvodokanal» has officially announced that it has concluded an internal investigation into the three canisters found on the premises of the third-stage water supply pumping station.

The company published a post to this effect on its Facebook page.

The investigation was launched after three jerry cans were found on the station’s premises, one of which contained a liquid resembling diesel fuel.

«The Security Department of Mykolaivvodokanal has concluded its internal investigation. Its aim was to determine the origin of the fuel and lubricants and to check whether there had been any unauthorised use of our resources,» the company stated.

Following the investigation, the water utility stated that the canisters and fuel did not belong to the company. As it turned out, they had been left behind by one of the employees.

«No evidence of misappropriation, embezzlement or unauthorised draining of fuel belonging to the company has been found,» the water utility added.

At the same time, the water utility says that the employee breached fire and industrial safety regulations by storing fuel containers and flammable substances in a room not designated for that purpose.

«Storing fuel containers and flammable substances in a room not designated for this purpose posed a real risk of fire and damage to the property of a strategic facility,» the statement reads.

Following the inspection, the company initiated disciplinary proceedings against those responsible. Department heads were also instructed to rectify the identified violations and strengthen monitoring of compliance with internal regulations.

Mykolaivvodokanal has promised to hold unscheduled briefings on fire safety and the rules for storing fuel and lubricants.

As a reminder, cases of the company’s electricity being used for personal needs were discovered on the premises of the Varvarivka treatment plant in Mykolaiv.
