These relate to the designs of the awards, as the region’s symbols now feature Saint Nicholas. However, the symbols of ancient Olbia, which the military had proposed for the region’s coat of arms, will now be featured on the «For the Defence of Mykolaiv Region» award.
These decisions were adopted at the session of the Mykolaiv Regional Council on 28 May, according to NikVesti.
Deputies agreed to changes to the ‘For Services to Mykolaiv Region’ award, specifically to the description and design of the badge and its accompanying certificate.
However, Anatolii Nikolenko raised the question of who determines the «awarding bodies». According to the head of the regional council, Anton Tabunschyk, the entire procedure is published on the regional council’s website. Ultimately, Anatoliy Nikolenko was the only one to vote against the adoption of the decision.
Another decision was adopted regarding the «For the Defence of Mykolaiv Region» award. In particular, the design of the badge was amended. As Anton Tabunschyk explained, elements of the Olbia polis will be incorporated into it . These had previously been proposed for the coat of arms of Mykolaiv Region. It is worth noting that the commemorative coin is intended to be presented to foreign guests or partners from other regions of Ukraine, thereby promoting the Mykolaiv region.
