He made this statement during a session of the Mykolaiv City Council on 28 May, according to NikVesti.
It should be noted that during the discussion of one of the draft resolutions, a dispute arose between the mayor, Oleksandr Sienkevych, and councillor Tetiana Dombrovska, in which the mayor dismissed her question as hype.
«I’m a champion of hype, so what are you a champion of then? Searches and criminal cases?» said Tetiana Dombrovska.
To which he replied that the city authorities were cooperating with law enforcement agencies and had no intention of ‘covering up’ for officials or public sector employees in the event of violations.
«That’s exactly right. I’m a champion because I try to make the work of our executive committee as transparent as possible. That’s why we assist law enforcement agencies in all matters, including those concerning our institutions, enterprises, organisations, departments and directorates. We have no secret cooperation with law enforcement agencies and we won’t cover for anyone. We will continue to seek out those involved in wrongdoing; they will be punished, tried and imprisoned,» stated Oleksandr Sienkevych.
In addition, the mayor stated that Mykolaiv ranks first among cities in terms of cooperation with the European Anti-Corruption Initiative under the «Cities of Integrity» programme.
He also highlighted that the city has become «the leading community in terms of preparedness» and will represent Ukraine at the Ukraine Recovery Conference in Gdańsk, Poland.
«We will continue to keep up the pace and aim for top positions in post-war recovery efforts,» he said.
As a reminder, Mykolaiv City Council member Tetiana Dombrovska and Mayor Oleksandr Sienkevych had a disagreement on Facebook regarding the procedure for citizens’ participation in city council plenary sessions following the incident on 30 April, when Anna Kurkurina and Svitlana Fedorova attended the session to raise the issue of the closure of kindergartens.
