The Court of Appeal has overturned the Bashtanka District Court’s ruling on bail for a man suspected of raping his 7-year-old stepdaughter

The Mykolaiv Regional Court of Appeal has denied bail to a 39-year-old resident of Bashtanka who is suspected of raping a young girl.

This was reported by the press service of the Mykolaiv Regional Prosecutor’s Office.

According to the investigation, the suspect raped his partner’s daughter, and the following day the girl told her mother everything, after which the police arrested the man.

The crime came to light in May when Serhii Yanchuk, a judge at the Bashtanka District Court, remanded the suspect in custody, allowing him to post bail of nearly 400,000 hryvnias, as reported on Facebook by Mykolaiv lawyer Volodymyr Tymoshyn.

Juvenile prosecutors disagreed with this decision and lodged an appeal the very next day. The panel of judges in the appeal court found the prosecution’s arguments to be well-founded and overturned the decision of the court of first instance. The court remanded the man in custody without the right to post bail.

Meanwhile, NikVesti, citing its own sources, reports that the suspect was a military serviceman who had joined the Special Forces. The abuse of the girl on his part may have been committed on multiple occasions.

As a reminder, in May, the Domanivka District Court imposed a preventive measure on a 40-year-old man suspected of raping his 20-year-old daughter. He was remanded in custody without the right to bail.
