Over 60% of educational institutions in the Mykolaiv region are operating in-person.

This is reported in an article by NikVesti: «Educational losses in Mykolaiv’s schools: how war, unrest and distance learning have affected children’s education».

According to Alla Velikhovska, Head of the Mykolaiv Regional State Administration’s Department of Education, distance learning is being used only temporarily due to the security situation.

«At present, face-to-face learning predominates: approximately two-thirds of schools are operating in-person. The remote format is used only as a temporary measure, for example, for a week or two due to the security situation,» she says.

She also notes that the state is trying to create conditions for the education of all children, even those who are abroad or in the occupied territories.

«Special classes have been set up for children living abroad, where they study the Ukrainian curriculum — language, history and literature. This enables them to obtain a Ukrainian school certificate,» explains Alla Velikhovska.

It should be noted that in Mykolaiv, according to monitoring results, the greatest educational losses among pupils are observed in mathematics, the Ukrainian language, history and English. At the same time, a gradual improvement in students’ academic performance is being recorded in the city.

In particular, students’ performance figures for the first term of the 2025–2026 academic year showed positive changes: in mathematics by 1.7%, in Ukrainian by 2.2%, in history by 2.6%, and in English by 2.4%.
