The mayor of Voznesensk, who was involved in a traffic accident in the Kirovohrad region, was detained by law enforcement officers.

This was reported to NikVesti by sources in law enforcement agencies.

According to their information, the official has already been notified of suspicion under Part 2 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — «Violation of traffic safety rules that caused the death of the victim or caused serious bodily injury.»

The court is expected to decide on a preventive measure in the near future.

As is known, on 28 January, a tragic accident occurred in the Kirovohrad region involving the mayor of Voznesensk, Yevhenii Velychko, during his business trip.

The details of the accident and what caused it are unknown. At the scene, rescuers used power tools to free an injured woman born in 1977 from the damaged car and handed her over to a team of medics. Another person involved in the accident, a man born in 1986, died at the scene. His body also had to be extricated from the wrecked car. All the circumstances and causes of the tragedy are currently being investigated.
