The head of the Mykolaiv regional military administration, Vitalii Kim, says that the Russian military has increased the number of attacks on the region as it wants to hit critical infrastructure.

The head of the regional military administration said this on the air of «Novosti.Live», according to NikVesti.

«As for the attacks, they have become more frequent now because winter has begun and the enemy wants to hit critical infrastructure,» said Vitalii Kim.

He recalled the recent shelling of the city by Shahed drones, one of which landed on the roof of a high-rise building and caused a fire.

«Luckily, yesterday (1 December), a Shahed drone did not explode, which was crushed and fell on the roof. We had to evacuate 250 people there because there was a fire. But it's still a blessing because there were no fatalities,» he said.

Mykolaiv region is currently preparing additional defences against Russian attacks, he added.

«Now both the city and the region have started their own production of interceptor drones. Our goal is to intercept not only those flying to us, but also transit drones flying in flocks to central Ukraine and beyond. We also have electronic warfare systems that we will improve,» said Vitalii Kim.

As a reminder, the Russian army has recently increased the number of attacks on Mykolaiv and the region. On 30 November, Mykolaiv was attacked by drones. The first explosion occurred at around 11:04 am. Later, more explosions were heard in the city. The Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine warned about the danger of UAVs. Afterwards, the head of the Mykolaiv regional administration reported damaged trucks and a fire in a warehouse.

During the morning attack by Shahed drones on 1 December, the roof of a 9-storey building caught fire in Mykolaiv. The fire was promptly extinguished, and the residents of the affected building told about the shelling.

On 1 December, the air defence forces shot down six Shahed drones and various types of imitation drones. Ochakiv and Kutsurub communities came under fire, and fires broke out.

And on 2 December, the Russian army attacked the territory of Mykolaiv region — Ochakiv, Halytsynove and Kutsurub communities — with FPV drones ten times.
