In Poland, railway tracks have been damaged on one of the sections of the Warsaw-Lublin route used to transport aid to Ukraine.
The incident was reported by Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk on social media.
«The undermining of the railway line on the Warsaw-Lublin route is an unprecedented act of sabotage aimed directly at the security of the Polish state and its civilian population,» said Donald Tusk.
The Prime Minister stressed that this railway is a critically important route for supplying support to Ukraine.
Interior Minister Marcin Kierwinski also confirmed that the incident is being treated as a sabotage. According to him, the authorities are already checking another section of the same railway line, where damage to the tracks was also recorded.
«There is no doubt that we are dealing with an act of sabotage,» said Marcin Kierwinski.
Defence Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz said that the Polish military would inspect all 120 kilometres of the railway line leading to the border with Ukraine to prevent similar incidents in the future.
The President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen reacted to the sabotage. In her post, she stressed that security threats in Europe are growing.
«Europe must urgently strengthen its ability to defend our skies and our infrastructure. Poland ranks first in Europe in terms of defence spending. And it will be the biggest beneficiary of the SAFE instrument. We are stronger together,» said Ursula von der Leyen.
Earlier it was reported that a significant increase in sabotage activity was recorded in Mykolaiv region during the year. The number of detected cases of sabotage increased from one in 2023 to 17 in 2024.
