Deputy Head of the Kherson Regional Military Administration Oleksandr Tolokonnikov said that after Angelina Jolie's visit to Kherson, foreign journalists and international foundations became interested in the region again.
He said this on the air of the telethon «Yedyni Novyny».
«The most important thing is that foreign journalists have come here again, and foundations have remembered Kherson. We understand that this is another step towards Kherson being talked about again, aid being sent to Kherson, and people being interested in it. And this is very important for us, because we mostly try to tell the world about Kherson ourselves. But if a star like Angelina Jolie comes and tells the story herself, then, of course, we will be talked about loudly. And so, indeed, this is a great help,» said Oleksandr Tolokonnikov.
He also added that they were not informed about Jolie's arrival in advance.
«We found out only at the first checkpoint at the entrance to the region that such a distinguished person was coming. Other services may have known, but they did not inform us,» the official added.
Angelina Jolie's visit to Mykolaiv region
As you know, Angelina Jolie visited Ukraine in early November.
During the visit, her motorcade was stopped by employees of the territorial recruitment centre. A video was posted on social media showing Jolie in the Voznesensk district recruitment centre.
Later, it became known that an investigation would be conducted in Pivdenoukrainsk to determine how the video appeared in the public domain. The Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that the man who was detained that day by the RTC was a reserve officer and had no confirmed grounds for deferment.
Later it turned out that the detained man in the motorcade was a 33-year-old combat sambo coach from Kropyvnytskyi, Dmytro Pyshchykov. As reported by «Suspilne», he did not serve in the army, but has military training, passed the VLC in 2025 and was considered partially fit to serve in the TRC or rear units.
Later, Hollywood actress Angelina Jolie told how during a visit to Mykolaiv and Kherson, she had to stop and wait while a drone flew overhead. According to her, the threat of drones was constant and tangible. Locals call it a «human safari», where drones are constantly used to track, hunt and intimidate people.
The actress noted that many schools, clinics and kindergartens in the region have been moved to fortified basements, and residents are determined to keep life going despite the danger. She added that conversations with locals showed her the psychological burden of the constant threat and the fear of being forgotten by the world.
