The Executive Committee of the Mykolaiv City Council has approved a list of places where Christmas trees and decorations will be sold during the New Year holidays in Mykolaiv.

The decision was made at a meeting of the executive committee on Wednesday, 12 November, according to NikVesti.

During the meeting, Tetiana Shulichenko, director of the city council's economic development department, noted that entrepreneurs who will participate in the holiday trade must comply with a number of requirements:

«The business entity must ensure a number of measures to organise trade. In particular, it is necessary to conclude contracts for waste removal, and to sell Christmas trees with tags and barcodes».

«And, of course, the recommendation to the Main Department of the National Police is to ensure constant control over the prevention of unauthorised trade by business entities,» the official added.

For his part, Mykolaiv Mayor Oleksandr Sienkevych added that the city needs to create a festive atmosphere.

Mykolaiv's main Christmas tree: what is known

As a reminder, the last time the main Christmas tree of Mykolaiv was set up in 2021 on Soborna Square. It was set up there in 2018.

Instead, in 2022, a military-style Christmas tree appeared in the centre of Mykolaiv — it was made of camouflage netting for the military. It was used to cover the sandbags that were used to protect the monument to St Nicholas in October 2022 in case of Russian shelling.

In 2023, the main Christmas tree of Mykolaiv was not set up and no festive events were held. At the same time, the tenant installed a Christmas tree and a winter skating rink on the territory of the children's town «Kazka».

In 2024, the city authorities of Mykolaiv also refused to celebrate and did not set up the traditional main Christmas tree. In an interview with «Ukrinform», Mykolaiv Mayor Oleksandr Sienkevych said that they decided to focus on safety and modesty in their festivities.
