A massive attack by the Russian Federation: Kinzhals, Kalibrs and drones hit Lviv and Ivano-Frankivsk regions

On the night of Sunday, 5 October, Russian troops launched drones and missiles of various types into Ukraine. Explosions were heard in various regions, including the western ones.

According to the Ukrainian Air Force, the attack began in the evening — Russian troops launched drones in waves, after which Tu-95 bombers and MiG-31K fighters took to the air, firing «Kinzhal» and X-101 missiles.

Most of the air targets were heading towards Lviv region. In Lviv, residents heard the sounds of drones flying overhead and air defence systems operating, followed by a series of loud explosions.

The mayor of the city, Andrii Sadovyi, said that part of Lviv was left without electricity, in particular the districts of Riasne and Levandivka. Videos have been posted online showing columns of black smoke over the city.

In addition, according to him, the Sparrow industrial park is on fire in Lviv.

«There is no confirmed information about hazardous emissions in Lviv, but just in case, close the windows and stay in a safe place,» Andrii Sadovyi wrote.

In addition, explosions were heard in Ivano-Frankivsk and Rivne regions.

At 8:21 a.m., the head of the Ivano-Frankivsk regional administration, Svitlana Onyshchuk, said that air defence units were working in the region. She urged residents to stay indoors and stay in safe places.

Due to the attack on western Ukraine, Poland has scrambled its own and NATO allied fighter jets and put air defence and radar surveillance systems on alert, the operational command of the Polish Armed Forces said.

At the same time, Zaporizhzhia was heavily attacked. At least ten rockets hit the city, killing one person and wounding nine, according to the head of the Regional Military Administration Ivan Fedorov. Multi-storey buildings, private houses and cars were damaged. More than 73,000 subscribers were left without electricity.

According to preliminary data from monitoring channels, the attack on Sunday night was one of the most massive since the beginning of autumn. Russia used more than 700 drones of various types, up to 50 cruise missiles «X-101» and «Calibre» from Tu-95MS bombers and missile carriers in the Black Sea, as well as two «Dagger» aerial ballistic missiles from MiG-31K aircraft.

As a reminder, on Saturday, 4 October, the Russian army attacked the territories of the Ochakiv and Kutsurub communities in Mykolaiv district seven times with FPV drones.
