In the Chornobaivska community in Kherson region, rumours of a massive locust infestation in the fields were not confirmed. Experts conducted a survey and assure that there is no threat.

Following reports in social media about an alleged locust invasion in sunflower fields near the village of Soldatske, experts from the State Service of Ukraine for Food Safety and Consumer Protection inspected 197 hectares of crops.

They found a few pests of the Italian locust, but their number did not exceed the permissible limits. The farm has already carried out chemical treatment of the field and the surrounding area. A potential locust outbreak has been eliminated.

It is noted that a significant portion of the sunflower crops suffered from abnormal heat and lack of moisture, and the harvest in these areas is subject to write-off.

Experts advise farmers to regularly check their fields, especially uncultivated areas, perennial grasses and pastures. This is best done in the morning or evening, when locusts are less active.

For advice on how to detect or destroy locusts, please contact the Main Department of the State Service of Ukraine for Food Safety and Consumer Protection in the Kherson region at (050) 76 87 494.

Earlier it was reported that there were no locust outbreaks in Mykolaiv region similar to those recorded in Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions.
