Sybiha on the night attack by the Russian Federation: This is Putin's reaction to the call for a truce

On the night of 7 May, Russia launched another large-scale attack on Ukraine. Kyiv, Zaporizhzhia and other regions came under fire. According to the Foreign Ministry, the strikes killed at least two people and injured several others, including four children who suffered burns.

The Foreign Ministry said the attack was the Kremlin's response to Ukraine's proposal for a 30-day or longer ceasefire.

First Deputy Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha stressed that Putin cynically responded to the peace initiative with brutal attacks on civilians. In his opinion, such a reaction demonstrates the true face of the Russian authorities — not liberators, but those who commit war crimes.

«Putin is responding with such brutal attacks to Ukraine's unconditional offer of a ceasefire for 30 days or longer. He is deliberately mocking the peace efforts of the United States», he stressed.

Andrii Sybiha also noted that these events are yet another confirmation of why the joint commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the victory over Nazism with Russia is absolutely unacceptable.

«It is also another reminder of why commemorating the 80th anniversary of the victory over Nazism together with Putin's Russia is unacceptable. These are not «liberators», but war criminals», the Foreign Minister said.

As a reminder, Russian President Vladimir Putin declared a «truce» from 8 to 11 May. Moscow said that this was due to 9 May, when Russia celebrates Victory Day in World War II.
