The head of the Sumy regional military administration, Volodymyr Artiukh, said that most of the people killed in the rocket attack on the centre of Sumy were passengers on a trolleybus. According to him, people were returning from church when Russian troops used rockets with cluster munitions.
As he told the «United News telethon», most of the dead were among the trolleybus passengers.
«The enemy used munitions, probably rockets, with cluster munitions in the centre of the city, where there were many people at the time. It was a big holiday, people were returning from church. The rocket exploded in the air. Shrapnel cut the walls of the buildings. Unfortunately, we have victims. Most of the victims are people who were in the trolleybus, in fact, all the passengers were killed,» said Volodymyr Artiukh.
Strike on Sumy on 13 April: what is known?
On the morning of 13 April, Russia launched a missile attack on Sumy. At 10:52 a.m., acting mayor Artem Kobzar said that there were many dead as a result of the attack.
For his part, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy immediately reacted to the Russian ballistic missile strike on Sumy.
Later, the press service of the Sumy City Council reported that Russia had attacked the city's civilian infrastructure.
As of 14:10, it was reported that 32 people had been killed, including two children.
As of 18:00, 34 people were killed in Sumy, including two children. According to the SES, 117 people were injured, including 15 children.
