Drones attack one of Russia's largest oil refineries

On the night of 24 February, drones attacked one of Russia's largest oil refineries in the Ryazan region of Russia, causing a fire.

This was reported by Russian media. The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine also confirmed the attack.

«On the night of 24 February 2025, units of the Unmanned Systems Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Main Intelligence Directorate, in cooperation with other components of the Defence Forces, struck the Ryazan Oil Refinery in the Ryazan region, which is involved in supplying the Russian occupation army,» the statement said.

Andrii Kovalenko, head of the National Security and Defence Council's Disinformation Counteraction Centre, also noted that the refinery's processing capacity is 17.1 million tonnes of oil per year, making it one of the five largest refineries in Russia.

«It produces petrol, diesel fuel, aviation kerosene, fuel oil and petrochemicals. A special role is played by aviation fuel, which is critical for the frontline aviation of the Russian army and strategic long-range aviation striking Ukraine», he said.

Earlier this year, the Ryazan refinery was attacked twice — on 24 and 26 January.

As a reminder, on 13 March 2024, a fire also broke out at an oil depot in the Russian city of Ryazan.
