US President Donald Trump said during a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy that Ukraine should not expect to receive long-range Tomahawk missiles anytime soon.
This was reported by The Wall Street Journal, citing sources among American, European and Ukrainian officials.
According to the newspaper, during the meeting, Donald Trump sometimes showed irritation, and at one point even refused to look at the maps of hostilities shown by Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
The publication's interlocutors also noted that the US president made it clear that his top priority is to end the war, and he «is not tied to any specific territorial outcome».
It should be noted that Donald Trump recently said that the decision to transfer Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine «was to some extent made», but stressed that he did not want to escalate with Russia.
He noted that he is ready to give Ukraine Tomahawk cruise missiles if the war with Russia is not resolved. According to him, such a statement is an element of pressure on the Kremlin, and he plans to discuss this issue personally with Russian leader Vladimir Putin.
At the same time, Russian President Vladimir Putin stressed that Ukraine's use of Tomahawk missiles «would damage relations between Moscow and Washington». Later, the Kremlin said it was waiting for specific decisions from the United States on the possible supply of cruise missiles to Ukraine.
Later, it was reported that the United States could supply Ukraine with 20 to 50 Tomahawk missiles, which is unlikely to significantly affect the course of hostilities or the situation on the battlefield.
