The European Union is working on a solution to the status of Ukrainian refugees after the war. The Czech Republic, together with Poland, which holds the EU Council presidency, is working on this issue for those Ukrainians who are currently under temporary protection.

This was stated by Czech Interior Minister Vit Rakusan in an interview with Novinky, according to «European Truth».

According to him, Prague is preparing for scenarios if a truce or any cessation of the war is declared in Ukraine.

In this case, temporary protection for Ukrainians will automatically cease, but they will be able to stay in the country for another year or a year and a half if they re-register under a different status, like other foreigners.

«We are preparing documents for this together with Poland, which holds the presidency of the Council of the European Union. We want it to be completed in the coming months,» he said.

Earlier it was reported that the first centre for the return of Ukrainian refugees would be opened in Berlin.

It should be noted that according to polls, 21% of Ukrainians are ready to leave the country in the event of full opening of the borders. The main reasons for this decision are the lack of development opportunities, the consequences of the war and insufficient social support.
