Young people in Mykolaiv opened an Eco Mobile Park: $5,000 was spent on its implementation

Eco Mobile Park, photo: Yevhenii YevsiukovRecently, Eco Mobile Park, a space for recreation and environmental education, was opened in a yacht club in Mykolaiv by a team of young people from the NGO «From Idea to Action» with financial support from Bloomberg Philanthropies.
NikVesti talked to the project manager Yevhenii Yevsiukov to learn more about the project.
In particular, about $4,700 was spent on the project. These funds were used to equip an area with seven benches, trash bins, five trees in mobile pots, and a mural calling for nature to be taken care of.
«The purpose of this space is primarily to relax. When you are just sitting there, distracted, thinking about your business, your thoughts are working in the background, and around you are inscriptions and a mural reminding you to respect nature. This makes the environmental message unobtrusive but noticeable,» says Yevhen.

In addition, Yevhenii said that each tree has a QR code that leads to the park's website, where you can learn more about the project.
«I often visited the yacht club, and there was no proper place to sit. The old benches were uncomfortable, and the area looked neglected. When I saw the Bloomberg grant, I decided to apply. That's how I came up with the idea to create a beautiful space with benches, trees and litter bins, as there were none at all. For me personally, Eco Mobile Park is a combination of recreation and environmental awareness, an opportunity to think about nature in a normal daily rhythm,» he added.
Eco Mobile Park mural with a call to take care of nature, photo: Yevhenii YevsiukovIt should be noted that this initiative was implemented as part of the Mykolaiv Development Agency's sub-grant competition, which was held as part of the global Youth Climate Action Fund programme with the support of Bloomberg Philanthropies and United Cities and Local Governments.
What is known about the cooperation between Bloomberg Philanthropies and Mykolaiv?
In April 2024, it became known that Mykolaiv was included in the list of 100 cities that will receive funding from the Bloomberg Philanthropies Youth Climate Action Fund to implement projects aimed at addressing climate issues.
According to chief architect Yevhen Poliakov, the main requirement for working on projects is to involve active students who will generate ideas for new interesting urban locations. At the same time, about $10,000 of the amount provided was allocated for student training and professional development.
In 2025, Mykolaiv received $100,000 in funding from the Bloomberg Philanthropies Youth Climate Action Fund to implement climate initiatives proposed by local youth. As part of the competition, 18 eco-projects were selected out of 26 ideas submitted to be implemented by the end of this year.
