Two films about Ukraine made it to the shortlists for the Oscars

Two documentaries dedicated to the war in Ukraine have been shortlisted for the 97th Academy Awards. These are The Porcelain War directed by Brendan Bellomo and Slava Leontiev, and Once Upon a Time in Ukraine directed by Betsy West.
«The Porcelain War», a collaboration between the United States, Ukraine, and Australia, is up for Best Documentary Feature. The film follows three artists from Kharkiv who remain in the city despite the constant threat of shelling and capture by Russian troops. They create porcelain figurines that decorate destroyed buildings.
The short film «Once Upon a Time in Ukraine» was shortlisted in the nomination «Best Documentary Short Film». The plot focuses on the lives of children growing up in wartime. The film was created in cooperation between Ukraine and the United States.
The Oscars ceremony will take place on the night of March 3, 2025, at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. The host will be American comedian Conan O'Brien.
It was previously reported that the Ukrainian Oscar Committee named the films that will participate in the national selection for the 2025 Oscar in the Best International Feature Film category.
