In Mykolaiv, companies have failed to pay employees 22.8 million hryvnias in wages. The largest amount of debt remains with the state-owned enterprise «Mykolaiv Shipyard» — formerly the 61 Communards Shipyard.

This was stated during a live broadcast on 22 May by Serhii Vasylenko, director of the Department of Labour and Social Protection of the Mykolaiv City Council, according to NikVesti.

Serhii Vasylenko noted that the department’s remit regarding labour issues is now limited: the only remaining task is to monitor wage arrears at the city’s enterprises and organisations.

«As of 1 May, the arrears stood at 22.8 million hryvnias. The bulk of this relates to our 61st Plant (Mykolaiv Shipbuilding Plant, — note). And we understand the reasons,» said Serhiy Vasylenko.

In 2026, as Serhii Vasylenko noted, the arrears had still not been cleared.

«We have few enterprises with outstanding debts: there are fewer than 10. But in most cases, as I said, it all comes down to the Mykolaiv Shipyard,» concluded the director of the Department of Labour and Social Protection.

It should be recalled that the Mykolaiv Shipyard has had wage arrears for many years. Employees have repeatedly appealed to the Government and the country’s leadership to have their wages paid.

In 2025, the state-owned enterprise «Mykolaiv Shipyard» (formerly the 61 Communards Shipyard) is selling the unfinished hull of a Project 13450 refrigerated vessel, along with its components and materials.

Vitalii Kim, Head of the Mykolaiv Regional State Administration, reported that Denmark is considering the possibility of using the site of the state-owned enterprise «Mykolaiv Shipyard».
