Mykolaiv is preparing to sign an agreement with the Danish GAU Fonden Foundation for the construction of social housing in the Soliany neighbourhood.

This was announced during a briefing today, 6 November, by Ihor Nabatov, deputy director of the Mykolaiv Housing and Communal Services Department, according to NikVesti.

According to him, cooperation with the GAU Fonden Foundation began last year, when the city council decided to appoint the housing and communal services department as the customer for the construction of social housing in the Soliany neighbourhood. A land plot was transferred to the community to implement the initiative.

«There was a pause of about seven or eight months — there was no feedback from the fund. Only two months ago, the correspondence resumed. The pause was due to internal issues within the fund itself, which have already been resolved,» said Ihor Nabatov.

The parties have now exchanged documents, and the draft agreement has been sent to the Danish side for approval. The signing of this document will be the next step in preparing for the direct design of the residential complex.

The official said that all contractors, from designers to contractors, would be determined by the Danish side.

«We insisted that this issue should not be on our side, but on the side of our Danish partners. If it's a foreign company, great, if it's a Ukrainian company, great. The main thing is that this issue is not on our side, but on the side of our partners,» he added.

What do you know about GAUFonden?

Previously, the Danish foundation GAU Fonden implemented projects in Mykolaiv region not for the construction of high-rise buildings, but modular houses for internally displaced persons. In particular, four such houses have already been installed in Domanivka.

According to Vitalii Kim, head of the Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration, a total of 25 such houses are planned to be built in the region by the end of 2026. The next stage will be the creation of a town of 50 modular houses in Pervomaisk.

In addition, the idea of using such structures to equip administrative service centres and outpatient clinics is being considered.

As a reminder, Denmark will allocate around 224 million euros to rebuild Mykolaiv region as part of a new support programme for Ukraine. The main focus will be on rebuilding the region's infrastructure and strengthening the resilience of Mykolaiv.

Over the previous three years, Denmark has already provided around 213 million euros in aid to the city and region. The main focus was on the most urgent needs — the restoration of critical infrastructure.
