Over 24 million hryvnias are planned to be spent on the overhaul of the road on 6a Slobidska Street from Tsentralnyi Avenue to 1a Voienna Street. After the works, traffic on this section will become two-way.

This is evidenced by data from the ProZorro public procurement system, according to NikVesti.

The customer of the works is the Department of Housing and Communal Services. The works are scheduled to be completed by 30 June 2026.

According to the tender documentation, the contractor has to remove the old asphalt concrete by milling, dismantle and disassemble the curb stones, lay new concrete curbs, arrange the pavement itself, install new curbs, tactile plates and organise the improvement of the surrounding area.

As explained to NikVesti in a commentary to the PJSC, these areas will be carried out in parallel with the work being carried out by the utility company «Mykolaivelektrotrans». Thanks to this work, the road on this section will be widened to 10 metres.

«Mykolaivelectrotrans» is carrying out the replacement, and we, as part of this tender, will replace the road surface and lay shaped elements on the tramway itself, as has already been done on Mark Kropyvnytskyi Street and near Narodnyi Sad. The road will be widened to include a part of the tramway — everything is the same, but the grating and side stone will be moved beyond it. In other words, the road will be widened to 10 metres,» explained Maksym Bevza, deputy head of the planning and tender and contractual work department of the Housing and Communal Services.

In addition, traffic on the relevant section will become two-way.

«We will have two-way traffic. In fact, it will be possible to turn from Tsentralnyi Avenue to 6 Slobidska Street and get to Raketne Uchyshche or the 1st Hospital,» the official added.

However, the opinions of local residents and drivers are divided on the issue of convenience. Speaking to a correspondent of NikVesti, Yurii, a resident of Mykolaiv who lives in the private sector, said that this would create difficulties.

«There used to be a two-way road here. And when there was no market, it was convenient. Now, when there will be cars in a row, I can't imagine how it will be. Firstly, it is difficult for those who live in this neighbourhood. It is difficult to leave the yard. There is no room for manoeuvre. It is hard to imagine how this will be implemented,» the man shared his opinion.

At the same time, drivers who often come to the local market are convinced that widening the road will facilitate traffic.

«Look, there's a market here, people come to buy things. If a car gets stuck and the road is narrow, it's hard to move. If the road is wider, two cars will easily pass each other. It will be as wide as three lanes. This is about our comfort,» said Anatolii, a resident of the city.

As a reminder, 300 million hryvnias is needed to replace 15 kilometres of tram tracks in Mykolaiv. This is 20% of the total length of the city's tramways.
