Almost 400 hectares of corn and half of the sunflower crop have been lost in Mykolaiv region due to the prolonged drought, which has been going on for two years.

This was reported by the head of the Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration, Vitalii Kim, on the TV channel «Espresso».

According to the head of the region, in 2025, due to abnormal temperatures, the region suffered significant losses in agriculture.

«The drought has caused many problems. This year, we lost almost the entire corn crop — about 400,000 hectares — and almost half of the sunflower, which was the main crop we needed. This is the second year of drought for us, and it's a disaster,» said Vitalii Kim.

The head of the Mykolaiv Regional State Administration considers the heat situation in the region to be extremely difficult. The authorities are now looking for an opportunity to allow grain trucks to pass through during curfews to facilitate their logistics.

According to Kim, the situation with the harvest is currently extremely difficult. To resolve this issue, he asked for help from government agencies.

«We have already asked the government for help, we are working to resolve the situation. It is very difficult for business, the situation is really critical, but we will look for a way out,» said Vitalii Kim.

Earlier, NikVesti reported that due to prolonged drought and abnormal heat, the harvest, including sunflower, was virtually destroyed in the region. In such circumstances, local farmers no longer have the resources or motivation to protect their fields.
