Ukraine needs $29.8 billion to demine its territories, which is $4.8 billion less than previously estimated.

This was reported by the Ministry of Economy with reference to the RDNA4 report compiled by the World Bank, the government of Ukraine, the European Union and the United Nations.

Minister of Economy Yuliia Svyrydenko noted that the reduction in the amount was made possible by progress in the survey and clearance of land where hostilities took place.

«And we have room to grow: the authors of the report note that the active development of innovations such as the use of sensor technologies, aerial photography and machine learning can further accelerate and, accordingly, reduce the cost of demining», she said.

The Ministry of Economy also stressed that, as demining will take decades, it is important to create long-term institutions and strengthen partnerships with international mine action organisations.

Earlier it was reported that in 2025, experts from Norwegian People's Aid (NPA) will continue to survey and demine the territory of Mykolaiv region.

As a reminder, Mykolaiv region is still one of the most explosively contaminated areas in Ukraine.

Who will demine Mykolaiv region and when?

Mine clearance in Mykolaiv Oblast, one of the most heavily mined regions of Ukraine, has been going on for more than two years. Since then, more than 20,000 hectares of potentially mined areas have been cleared, but not all areas have been surveyed.

Today, professional deminers continue to work in Mykolaiv region: government units, Ukrainian and foreign companies. While in 2023 the pace of demining in the region was quite fast, in early 2024 it slowed down somewhat.
