The European Union will approve the 19th package of sanctions against Russia in September 2025.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced this on 17 August in Brussels during a joint press conference with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

Von der Leyen reminded that the EU has already adopted 18 packages of restrictions and is preparing the next one. According to her, sanctions work and produce results.

She also stressed that Europe has supported Ukraine from the very beginning of the war and will continue to help as long as it takes to achieve a just and lasting peace.

The European Commissioner noted that this requires reliable security guarantees that will protect both Ukraine and Europe. At the same time, she said, there should be no restrictions on the Armed Forces of Ukraine or international assistance for them.

«Ukraine must become a steel porcupine that no aggressor can overcome. We welcome President Trump's willingness to engage in the creation of such security guarantees, similar to NATO's Article 5. «The Coalition of the Willing» and Europe also stand ready to contribute», said Ursula von der Leyen.

To recap, Zelenskyy said he would meet with the US President in Washington on 18 August. According to him, he is going to discuss with Trump «all the details about the end of the killings, the end of the war».

The meeting at the White House will also be attended by Ursula von der Leyen, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, Finnish President Alexander Stubb, French President Emmanuel Macron, and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
