Pregnant woman hides her young son under shelling in Kherson: they are in hospital

On 7 April, Russian forces shelled Kherson with artillery at around 9:00 am, injuring a 31-year-old pregnant woman and her almost two-year-old son.

According to the head of the Kherson Regional Military Administration, Oleksandr Prokudin, a shell hit a residential building during the shelling. The woman covered the child with her body to save him. Both were trapped in the rubble, but rescuers managed to pull them out alive and take them to hospital.

The child was diagnosed with blast trauma and concussion. The mother, who is six months pregnant, sustained a head injury and an explosive wound. According to her, a part of the ceiling fell on her during the explosion, the Kherson Regional Prosecutor's Office said.

Law enforcement officials have already opened a criminal investigation into the commission of a war crime under Article 438, paragraph 1, of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

As a reminder, over the past 24 hours, on 6 April, Kherson and more than 30 settlements in the region came under Russian shelling and air strikes. One person was killed and five others were injured in the shelling.
